Time for Bed, Little One

Children's books, kids stories, bedtime tales, playtime, little foxAuthor:  Caroline Pitcher

Illustrator: Tina Macnaughton

Year: 2009

Publisher: Little Tiger Press, London

Age: 4 and above

No. of Pages: 28

ISBN: 978-1-84506-834-9

Here’s yet another work of art (for lack of a better phrase) featuring a happy, little Fox who’s reluctant to go to bed. He wants to squeeze in a little more play time before he sleeps and scampers off into the woods to find a playmate. He wanders about meeting many busy animals who've just started their day and have no time for the little Fox. He's disappointed until he finds little Badger, who like the Fox, sleeps when the sun rises.

Fox now has a friend to play with when the rest of the world is asleep!

This could make a good bedtime story but is unusual in that the colors are bright and vibrant thanks to paintings on each page that boast of resplendent grasslands and woods, each scenario shimmering radiantly in the morning light. The paintings are truly splendid.

Excerpt

“Catch me if you can!” she cried and dashed down the tree, shaking her shimmering tail.

They raced into the woods, through the crackly bracken …

…scattering the leaves and leaping over logs.

The woods were rich with the smell of feathers and fur and peppery leaves.

Taste - The senses

children's books, learning, knowledge, kids' literature, fun reading, factsAuthor: Mandy Suhr

Illustrator: Mike Gordon

Year: 1993

Publisher: Wayland Publishers, London

Age: 3 and above

No. of Pages: 32

ISBN: 978 0 75025 279 9

The kids enjoyed this book quite a bit even though it’s not a ‘storybook’.

The witty text and catchy illustrations elevate this book from a mere science book to a fun book that kids will enjoy.

I also liked the fact that the book is not just limited to humans but also touches on how some animals taste their foods.

This series ought to be a great find for little kindergarten libraries and of course, for parents who like to collect books for their little ones. :-)

Excerpt

Some things taste sweet.

Some things taste salty.

Some things taste sour or bitter.

Some foods taste really good when they are tasted together!
